Problem and Solution




On Monday 20th April, 2015


Last Monday, we learned about Problem and Solution continued from last week. Then, we did exercise about machine gun, Amnesia and found problem sentence, solution sentence discourse markers and analyzes meaning, main idea, title from texts in exercises. After that, Teacher assigned us to do exercise about Robots in factory and answered the questions in handout.

I think, this lesson is very difficult for me. It is very confusing about finding problem, solution, markers and analyzes meaning, main idea title. I solved the problem by intend more.

Learning Reflection in A Discourse Approach in Reading

On Monday 20th April, 2015
1. What did you learn in this course?In this course, I learned A Discourse Approach in Reading subject. I learned about 10 Unit. Each unit there are different genres of the text.Unit 1: Recount
A recount is the unfolding of a sequence of events over time.
Purpose to tell what happened.

Unit 2: Narrative
A narrative (or story) is any report of connected events, actual or imaginary, presented in a sequence of written or spoken words. Purpose of narrative is to entertain, i.e. to gain and hold the reader’s interest in a story.
Unit 3: Description
Description is a text which says what a person, a thing or a place is like.
Purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
Unit 4: Procedure
Procedure or instruction (How something is done).
Purpose is to tell the reader how to do or make something.

Unit 5: Comparison and contrast
Comparison and Contrast pattern presents similarities (comparisons) between two or more thing, differences (contrasts) between two or more thing, or both similarities and differences. Purpose: Authors use it when they want to explain or describe how two or more things are alike or different.
Unit 6: Cause/Effect
Cause/Effect is used to show how the facts or concept result due to other facts, events or concepts. Purpose: The purpose of the cause-and-effect essay is to determine how various phenomena relate in terms of origins and results. Sometimes the connection between cause and effect is clear, but often determining the exact relationship between the two is very difficult.

Unit 7: Definition
A definition is statement which explains what a thing is. It is a statement that answers the question “What is this thing?”.

Unit 8: Classification
Classification may refer to categorization, the process in which idea and objects are recognized, differentiated, and understood.

Unit 9: Exemplification
Exemplification is the use of examples to illustrate an idea, an opinion, or a generalization. Purpose of adding more information to explain.

Unit 10: Problem and Solution
Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue (a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution).

2. What did you find easy?
In my idea, I think Unit 1: Recount is easy because the text that tell what happened and very interesting. I really like this unit because I can do the exercise.
3. What did you find difficult?
In my idea, I think Unit 9: Exemplification and Unit 10: Problem and Solution is very difficult for me because it has a lot of words marker. I can't find a discourse marker because I don’t know some vocabulary. 
4. How did you solve the problem?
I solve my problem by do homework and practice on exercises myself.
5. What are your attitudes toward the course?In my idea, I felt happy. I like this subject very much because make me develop oneself in reading skill, writing skill and grammar skill. I think this subject is very useful subject about reading the texts, writing the texts, and analysis the texts.
I like teaching of Dr. Usa very much. She is good teach and very kind.

Problem and Solution

On Friday 3rd April, 2015.

Last Friday,In the period, teacher taught us Exemplification continued from last week. Then, we did exercise about Hazards in home and Language in birds.

                      



After that, we learned about Problem and Solution. First, teacher explained us about what is a problem and solution?


                                       

“Problem and Solution is a pattern of organization where information in a passage is expressed as a dilemma or concerning issue
(a problem) and something that was, can be, or should be done to remedy this issue (solution or attempted solution)”.

                                             


For this lesson, find the problem and solution markers is very difficult because it has a lot of words marker. I solved the problem by repeat.

Exemplification (Blog 13)



Exemplification

 

On Monday 23rd March, 2015.


Classroom in the after noon
In the afternoon, we learned about Exemplification. When the class started teacher taught about Exemplification, she explained us about details, marker of Exemplification and she assigned us to find the meaning of word in dictionary, viz. specific, vivid, persuade, and illustrate. Then she assigned us to do exercise in text 1 about  " College Students' Pressures"  We found the main idea, markers, and draw the diagram.

                        






After that, we read text 2 about ''fun things to do in Great Falls'' and answer the question. Finally, we read text 3 about hazards in the home that jeopardize a child and answer the question.
                                      



I think, this lesson is very difficult for me, but I will try.


Definition and Classification (Blog 12)

Classroom in the morning
Last Monday, I studied  A Discourse Approach in Reading class.
In the period, I learned about ''Definition and Classification''
When the class started teacher taught about Definition and Classification. First, she explained  us about examples and explanations of Definition and Classification.
Example   
Matter is defined as anything that occupies space and has weight.

Explanation   Here a technical term is defined after the verb phrase is defined as...Then, she assigned us to do exercise 1 about find the definition marker, technical terms, and the definitions. Teacher explained us to circle the definition marker, highlight the technical terms, underline the definitions.




After  we finished this exercise teacher assigned us to compare answer with my friend.  After that, she assigned us to do exercise 2 about find the classification marker, and draw a diagram and then, we read text 1 " What is Anthropology?"  and answered the question and complete the diagram.
For this lesson, definition is easy and classification is very difficult to understand. I find problems about write the diagram.  I solved the problem by repeat and I should be more practice.

Different between men and women in Thailand

            In my opinion, different between men and women in Thailand.
I think men and women in Thailand. They have different duty such as, women is housewife has duty about cooking and parenting their baby at home. Men is a pillar of family about working hard. Different in habit of women they speak than men do. women use words of praise like good, wonderful and men usually do not. When speaking, women often try to make the others feel happy than men do, at the same time men have strength and patient than women. Different between men and women in Thailand of emotional women usually attentive with emotional and don't have reason and men is impetuous and spirited. However, The advantages and disadvantages of men and women are different. So, both women and men are should understand and accept each other.

Last Monday, I studied   A Discourse Approach in Reading class.
In the period, I learned  about  "Cause and Effect"  

When the class started  
teacher told the correct answer and  assigned us to do analyze about exercise "Men and Women : Do They Speak the Same Language?" in Comparison and Contrast.

In discussing the differences in dictation, consider that women reflect more sentimentality when they speak than men do. Women do not typically use profanities in their speech whereas men do, at the same time women use words of praise like good, excellent and wonderful and men usually do not. When speaking, women often try to make the others feel happy whereas men just want to show how wonderful they themselves are.  The syntactic differentiations between males and females deal with directive speech. Men often use directive phrases such as “do this now” and women will be more indirect saying something like “why don’t we do this for a while?” Women are taught to be more ladylike, and speak gracefully, softly and less forceful.
In the afternoon

We learned about "Cause and Effect".  When the class started   teacher  introduced to the lesson by watching some text  example about "Cause and Effect". After that, Teacher taught about markers of cause and effect for instance cause, outcome, factor, to affect, to lead to etc. Then, teacher  assigned us to did exercise about to find cause and effect in paragraph, teacher explains us to circle the cause and effect  markers, highlight each cause and mark in with a C, underline each effect and mark in with an E.

                                        Example


For  this lesson, finding the cause and effect markers is easy and
finding the cause and effect is difficult for me. I find problems about reading because I can’t understand some vocabulary.
I must use dictionary to find vocabulary and ask my friends.
In this lesson, I feel happy and I like this lesson very much because make me develop oneself in reading skill. I get a lot of knowledge which new vocabulary.
